Mary J. (Hutson) Galetti, age 82, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 27, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to all who were fortunate to know her.
Born Mary J. Hutson to Ross and Cora Hutson, she was the cherished sister of three brothers — Bob, Richard, and David. She married the love of her life, Joe D. Galetti, in 1963, and together they built a beautiful life centered on family, community, and service.
Mary began her professional journey with Kelly Services, which led to a fulfilling career in the insurance industry. She was known for her fun-loving personality and zest for life. She brought joy to every room she entered and had a special way of making those around her feel valued and loved.
Her hobbies included painting, gardening, and enjoying audiobooks. Mary also had a passion for travel, making lasting memories on trips with friends and family to Colorado, cruises, and adventures with her extended fire department family. A proud and devoted member of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department family, Mary’s life was deeply intertwined with the department through her husband, father-in-law, brother, and son. She cherished this connection and the close-knit community it brought.
Mary devoted herself to keeping her daughter Gina’s memory alive by raising funds for a scholarship established in Gina’s honor. Above all, Mary’s greatest joy was her family.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jennifer (David) Ross, Mary (Scott) Schmidt, and Joe (Linda) Galetti. She was a devoted grandmother to Elizabeth (Justin) Kliethermes, Jacob (Mariah) Ross, Megan (John) Fus, Grant (Erin) Schmidt, Katherine Schmidt, Joseph Michael Galetti, and Tyler Galetti. Her great-grandchildren — Emmett and Addi Kliethermes and Clara Ross — brought her immense joy, and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her fourth great-grandchild.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Cora Hutson; her beloved husband, Joe D. Galetti; her daughter, Gina; and her brothers Bob, Richard, and David. She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will continue to celebrate her vibrant spirit and enduring love.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Park Lawn Funeral Home – Northland Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Mary are invited to gather in remembrance of her beautiful life.
