Mary Ellen Hall

May 17, 1924 — May 25, 2025

Kansas City, Missouri

Mary Ellen Hall, 101, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, of cancer. She was a resident at Kingswood Senior Living Community. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Mary Ellen (Tebow) Hall was born May 17, 1924, and grew up in Maryville, MO. She received a BS degree in Music Education from Northwest Missouri State College. Upon graduation, she was selected for “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.”

The violin was Mary’s major instrument; she began taking lessons at the age of 12. In college, she was in many musical groups including string ensemble, choir, vocal ensembles, and band. She played pipe organ at the Presbyterian Church in Maryville, MO on Sunday mornings.

Mary and Harold Hall, also a graduate in music, were married on August 7, 1948. During their marriage of 67 years, they shared their love of music by playing in orchestras in Des Moines and Pella, IA; Baltimore, MD; Ann Arbor, MI; and numerous orchestras in the Kansas City area.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church. For many years, she played organ and directed the youth choir at the United Methodist Church in Knoxville, IA.

After moving to Kansas City, Mary volunteered at Truman Medical Center and then was a part-time secretary in the KC Adult Health Occupations Headquarters for 18 years. She continued giving piano lessons in her home. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels in her 80’s and “retired” from that at age 90.

Mary is survived by daughter Cynthia (Terry) Augspurger; son Steve (Kathleen) Hall; sister Ruth Spies Burgess; brothers Kenneth and Robert Tebow; four grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kingswood Foundation, 10000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 (a separate 501(c) (3) nonprofit) or to a charity of your choice.
