Lonzo “Neil” Simmons, 87, of Bates City, Missouri passed away on May 31, 2026. He was born August 3, 1938, in Sedalia, Missouri to the late Ernest and Alma Bea (Crafton) Simmons.
In 1956, Neil joined the U.S. Marines where he worked as an electrician. After his service to our country Neil worked for Sprint and went back to school at age 30, and got his bachelors degree. He was then promoted and became a Software Designer for Sprint until his retirement. He was a devoted Christian and member of Rock Brooke Church in Belton. He was a go-kart racing enthusiast actively racing for many years. He was a lover of dogs and cats from the time he was a little boy; and he had many over the years. tow of his favorites were "Sassy Anne" and "Duke".
He is survived by his wife of 68, years Billie; daughters Kelley (John Engelman), Robyn (Mike) Burton and grandchildren; Brenna, Ryan, Abby, Zachary, and Andrew and several great-grandchildren and other nieces, nephews, grand-pets, extended family and a multitude of friends.
In addition to his parents Neil is preceded in death by his 2 sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be Friday, June 12 from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM at Park Lawn Funeral Home 8251 Hillcrest Road. Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Guests are also encouraged to wear comfortable clothes including anything patriotic or the “Sarcastic T-Shirts” that Neil was “famous” for wearing. All are welcome to attend a luncheon at Rock Bridge Church 1715 173rd Street, Belton, MO for food and fellowship following the service.
Donations to Wounded Warrior Project are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
