Obituary

Peggy Belt Harre, 77, of Leawood, KS, passed away on May 12th, 2026 at Overland Park Regional Hospital surrounded by family.

Peggy Sue was born on September 12th, 1948, to Bob Harold Belt and Doris Jean Belt in Marceline, MO. After graduating from Marceline High School in 1966, she attended UMKC where she graduated with a teaching degree and later worked as a middle school and high school art teacher for Kansas City Public Schools before becoming a full time stay at home mom.

Peggy will be remembered for the warmth and compassion she brought into the lives of those around her. She found joy in life’s simple treasures, tending to her flowers, spending the mornings watching the various birds that had gathered at her feeders, spending time caring for her beloved dogs or preparing for Christmas while enjoying her cherished Hallmark ornament collection. A gifted artist, Peggy often shared her creativity and talent with friends and family, leaving behind countless memories touched by her imagination, kindness and love.

Her greatest passion in life was family. Peggy married Ray Harre in 1981, and together they shared 44 wonderful years together. Peggy had two children (Michael & Matthew) and as a stay-at-home mom, she was heavily involved in their school activities, was their Cub Scout Den Leader and a constant cheerleader for all their sports events. After her two boys grew up, she was excited to have grandchildren and after receiving two handsome grandsons (Nathan and Luke) she was finally blessed with a little girl, Amelia Jean. Peggy also spent many years researching both sides of the family tree, connecting with distant relatives via Facebook and compiling genealogy books for the Harre, Belt and Hanavan families.

Peggy is survived by husband Ray, brother Garry (Patricia), son’s Michael and Matthew (Rhonda) and grandchildren Nathan, Luke, and Amelia and was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Doris Belt along with several aunts and uncles.

A visitation will be held on June 6th, 2026 at 10:00 AM -11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at Park Lawn Funeral Home 8251 Hillcrest Rd. Kansas City, MO, 64138

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KC Pet Project.
