It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Lee Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on June 26, 2025. Ron was born on October 22, 1957. He was a cherished son of Herbert and Norma Smith.
Ron's life was marked by a profound love for family, friends, and the farm. He graduated from Liberty High School. On December 17, 1977, Ron married the love of his life, Ellen Neth, embarking on a journey that spanned over four decades. Together, they raised three wonderful children, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Ron found immense joy in farm life and took great pride in raising cattle. His work ethic was unparalleled. He ran the farm and worked for 28 years at Axiom Impressions (formerly O'Dell Publishing), where he was respected and admired by colleagues and friends alike. He also served as a member of the Clay County Farm Bureau Board and the Water District #4 Board.
Above all, Ron's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted "Papa" to his four grandchildren, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother and sister, particularly at NASCAR races, where the thrill of the race was matched only by the joy of family togetherness.
Ron is survived by his wife Ellen, his three children Kevin (Cassie) Smith, Chad Smith, and Megan (Kyle) Stevenson, his four grandchildren, his mother Norma, his sister Ronda, and his brother Roger, who will forever cherish the memories of his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. He was preceded in death by his father Herb.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ron's life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and service. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Memorial Gathering honoring Ron's life will be held on Saturday, July 12th from 1-3 pm at Chandler Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Chandler Baptist Church or Excelsior Springs Park and Recreation for Charitable Sports Scholarships.
