Rosanna M. Don Carlos

           Rosanna Marie (Payson) Don Carlos, 82, of Sibley, MO, passed peacefully on August 20, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospice House with family at her side.

          Rosanna was born September 15, 1940, in Macon, MO, the eldest of three daughters of Charles H. Payson, Jr. and Mildred L. (Froning) Payson. She was united in marriage to James Noland Don Carlos and they welcomed three children, Maggie, William and Katie. 

          Rosanna graduated with her master’s degree in Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia.  After teaching a brief time in Denver and Los Angeles, Rosanna taught high school Science for more than 30 years at Northeast High School in Kansas City.

          Rosanna’s passions included anything outdoors…horseback riding in her younger years, gardening, photography, road trips and vacations.  She also loved animals and bred and showed various breeds of dogs. For several years she operated Don Carlos Kennels at her home in Sibley.

          Along with her parents, Rosanna was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, James Noland Don Carlos; and sister, Norma Dunn and Norma’s husband Jack.

          Survivors include her children, Maggie Don Carlos, William        Don Carlos and Katie Don Carlos (Jaime); sister, Nancy Gardner (Harold); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

          Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a service celebrating Rosanna’s life at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, August 27, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO.  Private burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.

          Plants would be preferred over cut flowers.  Or, remembering Rosanna’s love for animals, memorials are suggested to the World Wildlife Fund (www.worldwildlife.org).
