Sheryl Rae (Dowell) Rogers, 66, of Raymore, MO and former longtime Lee’s Summit resident, passed peacefully on May 1, 2025, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff at Kansas City Hospice House.
Sherri was born February 22, 1959, in Kansas City, MO, the second of three children of Otha A. "Jack" Dowell, Jr. and Marilyn J. (Cole) Dowell. Her mother preceded her in death in 2003. Sherri grew up in Raytown, MO, where she attended Spring Valley Elementary School and graduated from Raytown South High School in 1977. She later earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Sherri met her future husband, Mark Vern Rogers in the spring of 1990 and they were married on May 2, 1992. In 1994, they welcomed their daughter, Stephanie Paige.
Sherri’s work life included jobs as a project manager at Bendix, Sprint, and Truman Medical Center. She retired as a Senior Manager at Children’s Mercy Hospital in 2024. She was a member of Lee’s Summit Christian Church. Sherri loved spending time with her family at Table Rock Lake, cruises, and craft shows.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Mark; daughter, Stephanie; Mark’s daughters, Mandi Fagundes and husband Dave, and Sarah Rogers; her father, Jack Dowell and his wife Marcia; sister, Terri Smith (husband Larry, deceased); brother, Randy Dowell and his wife Cinda; nieces and nephews, Tiffany, Chad, Cailey and Colby; along with other family members and friends. She also leaves her beloved Shi-tzus, Teddy Bear and Buddy Boy.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 8, at Floral Hills East Cemetery, 25203 East US Highway 50, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086. A reception for family and friends is planned immediately following the service.
