Rose Thompson

February 2, 1929 — October 26, 2022

We celebrate the life of Rose Thompson, faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who departed this life October 26, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, on Sunday, October 30, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel 1640 North State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Burial in Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty. Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Rose was born February 2, 1929 on a farm near Jefferson City, Missouri, to George and Annie Garnett (now deceased). Rose met Marvin Thompson at summer school in Warrensburg in 1946. She had just graduated from high school and Marvin was recently discharged from the military following World War II. They were married January 10, 1948 in Warrensburg, Missouri, while Marvin was a student at University of Central Missouri and Rose taught at an elementary school near Jefferson City. They were married 73 years prior to Marvin's death on January 31, 2021.

Rose leaves her three children, Dale Thompson (Barbara), Susan Baker (Roger) and Dr. Tim Thompson (Gail); ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She had four siblings, Robert Lewis, Lashley Garnett and Ravine Garnett, all deceased, and Madeline Schneck survives.

Rose graduated from Centertown High School in 1946 and attended Maple Woods Community College, University of Central Missouri and UMKC. She taught at elementary schools in the Jefferson City area and for 18 years taught at private preschools in the Kansas City Northland. She was a member of PEO, an educational sorority.

Rose became a dedicated Christian at an early age. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and taught in the preschool department and Awanas. Prior to her membership at Pleasant Valley, she taught children's and teenage girls' Sunday school in previous churches. She often prepared food for members of her own Sunday school class who were ill, and for friends and neighbors when the need arose. She also served on the church hospital visitation program.

Rose will be missed by family and friends.
