Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00am, Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 North 291 Hwy, Liberty, MO 64068. Funeral Services will be at 10:00am immediately following. Interment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Raytown, MO. Virginia's family request the donations in Virginia's memory be made to Clay County Meals on Wheels or Kansas City.
Virginia Medlen, 95, formerly of Kansas City and a recent resident of Addington Place at Shoal Creek, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2026 at Liberty Hospital.
Virginia was born December 13, 1930, in Kansas City, MO, the youngest of three children of Richard Edward Laverty and Elizabeth Ruth Spaar (Laverty). Following graduating from Northeast High School class of 1948, she worked at Betty Rose Coats, National Bellas Hess and the U.S. Post Office. In 1948, Virginia was united in marriage to her first husband Carl Everett Estep. Together they shared 30 years of marriage and had four children. In 1978 she was united with her second husband Roy Dean Medlen where they shared 41 years of marriage until he passed in 2020. She was a member of Northern Hill Baptist, she loved sewing, making clothes, cooking, making dolls, sketching, and woodwork.she loved nothing more than being around family.
She was preceded in death by Carl Estep, Roy Dean Medlen, Daughter Deborah Estep and Son Michael Estep, Brothers Richard Edward Laverty Jr. and Robert Eugene Laverty along with her parents, pets and great granddaughter. She leaves behind her oldest daughter Karen Cummings (Alan), Son Carl Estep; grandchildren, Angela Bentley (Jamey), Elizabeth Estep, Kimberly Neighbors; great grandchildren Gaetano Sarro, Justyce Dority, Wyatt Nehemiah Dority, Ash Merenbloom, Abriana Merenbloom, and Aurora Neighbors; along with two great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends to carry on her stories and memories. Virginia also leaves Roy's family, including children, Anita Vaglica (Richard, deceased), Barbara Clark (Bruce), Cheryl Reed (Jim); grandchildren Lesli Vaglica Kieffaber (Kalen), Kelly Clark Pope (Jeremy), Brennan Clark (Baylee), Travis Clark (Brenda), Ashley Reed Bergan (Dan) and Logan Reed (Shannon); and 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

The family finds comfort knowing Virginia has been reunited with loved ones who went before her. She will be remembered for kindness, faith, generosity, humor, devotion to family. Though deeply missed, her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
