Raytown

William (Bill) John Stawarz passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 82. He was born on February 2, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Casimer and Jeanne Stawarz.

Bill was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in March 1963. During his service, he had the honor of serving aboard the recovery ship USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39) for Alan Shepard’s historic first American spaceflight on May 5, 1961.

He spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver, a career he took great pride in. Through long miles and countless hours on the road, he provided for his family and was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication.

Bill took immense pride in his role as a grandfather. He found his greatest joy in being surrounded by his grandchildren, loving them deeply and enjoyed watching them grow. At the age of 80, he was especially overjoyed to learn that he would be welcoming another grandchild—a blessing that filled his heart with happiness.

Even in his final days, Bill’s quirky and loving personality shone through. He faced his illness with strength and courage until the very end, always putting the needs of his family before his own.

He found true happiness in the company of his family and close friends. Some of his fondest memories were made at the Lake of the Ozarks, where he loved taking his family out on his boat, sharing laughter and happiness with those he loved most.

As we say goodbye to him, our hearts are filled with both sadness and gratitude. We will always remember his love, his guidance, and the joy and laughter he brought into our lives. Though he is no longer with us, his love and spirit will remain in our hearts forever.

Bill is survived and deeply missed by his wife of 35 years, Kathy (Stitt); his children, Jim, John, Kim, Carrie, Jennifer, and Teresa; his cherished grandchildren, Madison, Drake, Hadlee, and many other beloved grandchildren; his siblings, Jim Stawarz (Joyce), Tom Stawarz(Denise), Barbara Hampton(Ron), Janet Kreitler(Bob), Mary Bell (Alan), and Chuck Stawarz(Kathy); along with many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casimer and Jeanne, and his sons, Michael and Danny.
